Tulikivi soapstone in the facade of the Vyborg Library

The Vyborg Municipal Library, which is an internationally acclaimed design by the famous architect Alvar Aalto, has been under restoration for some years now. The library was badly damaged during the Warld War II and Soviet time. Reconstruction work started finally in 1994 by an international work group. The restoration work was completed beginning of October 2013 and the opening will be held in the beginning of 2014.

Particularly the facade of this functional building was in a bad condition. Soapstone from the Tulikivi quarries in Northern-Carelia have been used for the new facade.
